nist Iau directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to inform
you that, subject to your being passed by the Medical Adviser of this
Department as physically fit for service, he proposes to select you for

Chief Assistant at
Hangking Obserwatory
with salary at the rate of 1800 per annum, aut I um to enclose a

You will be required, if appointedt,

Z. “It is to be understood that you will be on probation for three years
from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if within the said three
years it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not
qualified for efficient service there, the Governor, subject to the confirmation
of the Secretary of State, will have full power to cancel your appointment
without any further compensation tranfa passage back to England, which
will be granted only upon his repor that you have, by your good conduct,
deserved it.
